Temple Legend & History

Karthyayani Temple is located at ‘Velur’ a beautiful village in Thrissur. It is around 30 km away from Thrissur town. Temple has around 250 years of history. 

                                           Its culture and heritage tells us more about the temple. The temple situated in a pleasant village atmosphere. The structure of the Sree Karthyayani Temple were in the form of “Mahakshertra”.The main specialty of the temple is the”Sreekovil” is situated in the upper segment of the “Kokarni” (the well inside the temple which is used for taking water for Abhisheka and Pooja).

 The other significance of this temple is associated with the unmarried devotee. They believe that by offering “Lalitha Sahasranama Archana”, “Vivaha Suktha Pushpanjali”,  “Lighting of Deepasthabam” 
and “Kadum Payasam Nyvedhyam” to the goddess Brahmacharini Devi, they will get married soon.

                         
                               Apart from the main idol, main upadevas of the temple are “Lord Vettekkaran(ShivaParvarvathy swaroopa)”, Lord  Ganapathy, Lord  Brahmaraksh and Lord  Dharmashastha.

The temple is under the administration of Thekkemadom Devasom-Thrissur.The thanthri of the temple is Brahama Shri. Puliyanoor Krishnan Namboothri and the Melshanthi is Brahma Sri. M.S. Narayanan.
